What do you all consider a good bench press??
Ive heard that once you can bench your own weight + you are consideered 'good'? at benching

I ask this because I've been working out about 4 months and my max 65kg / 143 pounds and i weight 62kg / 137 pounds, now all my friends say this is really really good for only working out after 4 months, but on the internet it seems like every can lift 200 pounds etc What do you think??

Lifting your own weight shouldn't have much to do with it quite frankly. Everyone is different and everyone has a different body type. I myself am a bit of a mixture of mesomorph and ectomorph. (Look them up yourself if you don't know what they are) Some really skinny kids will not be able to lift their own weight once they start, their bench may only be around 60 pounds, and that is perfectly fine. That is how I started out, but the strength will quickly build at first, after my first 2 months I was up to 100. Yes there are people like myself who can go up past 200 pounds, but we've been lifting for well over a year. I am nearing 2 years of lifting now with significent gains. Unfortunately, you will reach plateaus, be aware of this. I have knowingly hit 2 before, and I feel I'm entering one right now so at this moment I'm also working out a new schedule of different exercises, reps, weights, etc to bust the plateau before I sink in too far. I advise you to do the same as soon as you feel your gains (strength and mass) slowing down. As for John, benching twice your weight is no easy task. That would mean I would be benching around 300 pounds which is quite a challenge for some really big dudes out there. That would most definantly fall and crush my sternum. The guys who can bench 300 would most likely be in the 180-200 pound range in their own weight, so benching 400 pounds would be even less likely.

Great post mate cleared me up a bit.

One thing i just want to make sure is when you something along the lines of 'benching 300 pounds' do you mean as 1 rep max or multiple reps a set.

Its just personly when someone asks my 'max' i say what i can lift one rep of, but when they ask what i am benching i say what reps and weight im doing.

e.g.

At the moment I'm doing 57.5 kg 3 sets of 8 reps

And my max is 65kg

Anyway, how do you feel that your going into a plateau, i feel i hit one a month a go, however i increased the weight earlier than i would usually have and lowered the reps.

You have to be how HFX has described himself before. I am like this as well. Meaning you are very in tune with your body. When I take medication for example, I feel the exact moment it takes effect. I can also feel hormone rushes happening in a workout with similar side effects to steroids' testosterone rushes (Increased anger, aggresiveness, confidence, etc). I can feel when I'm just not growing anymore. For the past couple of weeks I also haven't made any strength gains what so ever. So I switch up my routine completely. For example, different lifts, types (stiffleg deadlift, sumo, etc), grips (Wide pullup, close pullup, chinups, etc), weights, reps, sets, and rest times. As for your other question. If someone asks me how much I bench, which by the way is my least favourite question, I say what I can consistently do for multiple reps, which currently for me is 210 pounds.
