the food pryramid

people on this forum say, tot get taller you need to go on a low carbohydrate, high protein diet. the food pyramid that nutritionists tell people to follow says to get 6-11 servings of grains, 2-4 fruits, 3-5vegetables,2-3 milk products and 2-3 servings of meats and nuts. All together the diet the nutritionists are recommending is pretty high on carbs. does this mean that, the recommended diet for humans does not allow for optimal height to be achieved? growing children technically need more of every vitamin, mineral and macro nutrient, so why are high protein low carb diets recommended for getting taller?

I guess the nutritionists aim isnt to make you grow taller. Its to keep you at optimum health. And maybe high protein diets dont actually work.

I mean, theres heaps of nutrients you cant get from meats and dairy products that you cant get from carbs and other things.

For example, fibre would be a big problem for a high protein diet.

There are many bad factors of having a high protein diet though... It makes your kidneys work harder, tiring them out. You can also get a condition called Ketosis. Your body, when fats have been consumed, turns the fat into ketones to burn as energy, and when the ketones havent been burned, they enter your bloodstream. These ketones upset your heart, intervenes with the flow of oxygen to cells, and can even shut down your nervous system. In severe ketosis, it can lead to coma, or death.

And because most meats have types of bad fats marbled in them, this is why there are less recommended servings of them each day. We actually need carbohydrates in our diet, and not just refined ones. Complex ones like fibre, which can come from whole grain versions of rice, pasta and bread.

Nice way to put it across but i feel you are going too severe by saying it will lead to coma or death. Rice has lots of carbo and i always heard doctors telling me carbo is essential for growth so i dun understand why the people here says rice will prevent growing.

whats carbo? i don't think rice will prevent growth, but it might not help as much as other foods. it depends on what type of rice your talking about, brown rice is more nutritious then white rice. this because brown rice is whole grain. whole grains are more nutritious then refined ones. I was wondering if just eating healthy gave you a better chance of getting taller. I always assumed the healthiest people grow the tallest.
