RE: The upcoming US election
I live in England, and therefore obviously can't vote. It's hard for me personally to judge who would be the better candidate for the job, I know very little about their pasts and experiences, and their matters of dealing big issues.
On the one hand, Obama gives a good speech. But how much truth are in these speeches? I don't know. He seems sincere, but people are often all too willing to trust someone based on the way they say something, or their approach, yet often not fully understanding the exact intentions of that candidate. Tony Blair was a good example. He could match anyone when it came to speaking to the public, yet he agreed to send Britain to war.
To continue on this theme, the perspective on John McCain isn't all that great. All his political advertisements and public speeches have been viewed as more of an attack on the democrats rather than promoting his own party. Another thing that put me off him was his appointment of Sarah Palin as a potential Vice President. If she became VP, we are all doomed. Should he get elected, imagine if McCain was to become seriously ill or incapable of continuing as President. Who would step up? Sarah Palin. If people argue against Obama's inexperience, what's she ever done? Govern Alaska? You can see from her interviews that she doesn't have a clue about politics. If this is the type of person John McCain sees fit to run as VP, what does that show of his judgement?
The current economic climate is going to become worse before it gets any better. Do we want someone in charge of the most powerful job in the world making the wrong decisions while president that could change all our futures?
To conclude, I would want Obama to win. Simply because the only thing I've seen John McCain promote of his own campaign has been exactly the same as what Bush has done for the past 8 years. I hope the decision is also decidely fairly and each candidate is given equal rights, but I wouldn't bet against it. The colour of Obama's skin shouldn't put his chances of winning in jeopardy, whether he's the best candidate or not. America needs a leader through the next 4 years, which I can guarantee are going to be extremely difficult for some, so making the right decision next week is crucial.
Wow. I didn't expect to write that much.

RE: The upcoming US election
I'd vote for Obama if i were american and a legal age to vote. I don't see John McCain fullfilling the job with the most respondisibility in the world. Obama gives better speeches, is a more fitting age (McCain could still become the pope), is a better spokesperson for america. I also don't see Palin substituting McCain if he would be unable to fullfill his job as the president. So i'd surely say Obama my family would probably be democrats if we would be americans anyway.

Haha it's because of the enormous difference in culture. The Republican party wouldn't fit into the dutch government at all. Also race is here no issue at all if it comes to politics. Another difference is how McCain is portraited by Dutch media as the not-so-sane-72-year-old
