Colostrum
Hi everyone.

I am a new member to the board and I have recently started to develop a height increasing program to get the most out of my last couple years of growth. One thing I'm trying to learn more about is colostrum. In one of the above posts, someone mentoned colostrum as a way to increase IGF. I have a few questions about it:

1. Is colostrum (produced by womens breasts during pregnancy), the reason why babies grow at such a rapid pace in their first year of growth, and then slow down once they stop breastfeeding?

2. What pharmaceutical company creates the highest quality and most potent?

3. What is the best way to take it? (capsule or powder), (best time of day or multiple times throughout the day?), (amount needed), (what should it be taken with for maximal results?).

Thanks for any info!

Also, can someone help me set up a signature? Not sure how to do it. thanks.

RE: Colostrum
Not sure about the second two questions, but babies still grow at almost the same rate regardless of whether or not they are breastfed. Its much healthier to breastfeed, tho, but thats another topic.

RE: Colostrum
Bovine (cow) colostrum is extremely rich in IGF-1. Insulin-like growth factor-1 is the agent that makes bones longer (if your growth plates are still open). It is the milk produced from the first 72 hours after birth. Obviously the IGF-1 isn't the only reasons the newborn calves grow fast. Fast growth during infancy is coded in their genes. But the IGF-1 concentration is in fact extremely high in colostrum.

I remember reading that colostrum has over 100 times the amount of IGF-1 than milk. But of course that depends on the amount you take. Usually colostrum is put into capsules in supplement stores.

I haven't tried it yet, but from the studies and articles I have read on colostrum, I think it just may be the best thing you can take to increase height.

Some people will tell you that IGF-1 degrades during digestion. True. But there are studies that prove that if IGF-1 is ingested along with casein (dairy protein, e.g. cheese), it can survive digestion. So what I suggest is taking colostrum in the middle of eating cottage cheese. Or perhaps open the capsule and sprinkle it on like salt.

isnt the capsule to protect the supplement from being broken up by the stomach?

i wouldn't try doing that - unless you're 100% sure whatever is in there cannot and does not harm any other part of your digestive track, before absorption

RE: Colostrum
Colostrum is the pre-milk provided by mammal mothers to their newborn. It is a rich cocktail of immune and growth factors, which literally gives life to most mammal babies. The world is just discovering the General Health and therapeutic potential for bovine colostrum to mankind.

Unlike most foods and nutritional supplements, there are an estimated 5,000 studies into colostrum. The sales of colostrum for basic good health are rising dramatically as are the medical food or nutritional products developments. A key objective of the ICR is to eliminate the confusion created by the conflictory and exaggerated claims made by a few unprofessional marketers of colostrum around the world.

You're confusing creatine with colostrum.
