About Height Calculators
This thread is here to discuss about Height Calculators.
I have noticed that some people are asking whether height calculators on the internet are accurate or not. Height calculators are not reliable as they do not consider your parents' past diet and routine, when they were young, like: - Amount of sleep - Diet - Exercise - Health problems - Past habits like Smoking (if have) and more... Secondly, the height grandparents, great-grandparents etc. A person will inherit 50% of the genes each from the mother and father. Thus, if one's great-grandfather/great-grandmother is tall, one MAY have 12.5% chances of being tall. I visited a website which says that genes affect up to 80% of the person's height and 20% are other factors such as first three from the above. So this means that one will have 10% chances of growing taller ( 12.5 X 80% = 10 ). In conclusion, height calculators are utter rubbish! >=( By the way, if I have made any mistakes from the above, please correct me. Thank you! =DDD |

RE: About Height Calculators
Height calculators should be banned from legit medical sites, because they mislead people in to a false sense of despair.
PLEASE NOTE: I am on an indefinate hiatus from GTForum. Nothing personal, just another project I've been working on since Summer '10. My account WILL reamain open - but please don't send PMs for advice until (and if) I return. GOOD LUCK ALL HEIGHT SEEKERS! |

RE: About Height Calculators
Height calculator is not true. They say my height will be 5'11'' ( depend on the genetic).
But now, I am 16. I stand above 6'. That's simply not true. I am not using height calculator anymore. |

RE: About Height Calculators
Actually I thought it wasn't working for me at first. But then I remembered my bone age=my age +1,and I still have my heights from past years.Result is something between 5'10'' en 5'11'' which was my final height.
If you are at least bone age 14,15 it's pretty accurate I think because you growth slows down and it's not really difficult to predict anymore. |

RE: About Height Calculators
By the way, here is a website on growth plates.
http://www.niams.nih.gov/Health_Info/Gro...ies_ff.asp This is to prove that injuries can stem height growth. So height calculators may not be reliable. |
